Veronica Williams
Hi my name is Veronica and I am the IYMP coordinator.
It is my job and responsibility to work with training providers, Aboriginal Hostels, Centrelink and employers to help you to achieve your training and education goals and ensure that your stay in Canberra is comfortable. I am guided by members of a Canberra based Local Support Team and they provide advice and expertise to ensure that you are looked after.
Canberra has other Indigenous people across the country living here; you can hear some of their stories during our testing and assessments. There are a lot of places to visit, you can travel to the snow during Winter, visit the Museum, visit the Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies, Parliament house, watch how they make money at the Royal Australian Mint and many more. I hope to see you in Canberra!
Mitch Cain - ISA Trainee
Hi my name is Mitchell and I am from Walgett.
I am now doing a traineeship with Indigenous Success Australia and learning new skills such as computers, networking with other organisations, office management skills and at the same time I am helping other young people.
Before that I used to drive a tractor for 7 days a week in the hot sun. When I was sitting on that tractor I never thought I would be working and enjoying myself in an office.
I just want to let you know that if you allow yourself to be creative you can develop new skills and just about become and do anything you want. I am enjoying myself and I hope you come down to Canberra and enjoy yourself as well!
Wills - Turner Hostel Manager
My name is Wills and I am the Turner Hostel Manager. I am pictured here with my adorable son Zanda!
We welcome any young people who want to come to Canberra and it is our job to make your accommodation life comfortable while you are here.
We work with Mitch and Veronica and ensure that you get the right training opportunities that you deserve.
We hope to see you soon!
